VERSIONS AND CONCESSIONS > HONORY PEDESTAL
There are some particularities in the representation of this monument, as the excavators of the Agora did not complete its study and did not suggest a specific architectural plan [Mc Camp II, J., The Athenian Agora: A Guide to the Excavation and Museum 4 (Αθήνα 1990), pp. 127-130]. The surviving material (100 fragments approximately), however, as well as the testimonies that its crowning consisted in a statue of a mounted man, led excavatora to the conclusion that this monument would have been rather similar to the tall monument ‘of Agrippa’ situated in front of the Propylaia of the Acropolis. This was erected after 178 BC in honour of Eumenes II, and was later re-dedicated to Augustus’ close associate in the late 1st cent. AD [Korres, M., ‘The History of the Acropolis Monuments’, in Economakis, R. (ed.), Acropolis Restoration: The CCAM Interventions (London), pp. 47-48]. This monument was used as a guide in this representation.
